The name of a 45-year-old man charged with raping a woman almost 30 years ago has been suppressed.
The man, who lives in the Rotorua district, appeared in the Rotorua District Court and did not enter a plea to a charge of raping a woman between March 26, 1974, and March 26, 1976.
The judge suppressed the man's name in the interim because of the historical nature of the charge and other details which, if published, could lead to his identity. He was granted bail to reappear in November.
