Broadcaster Pam Corkery will present a live interview show on TV One in March.
It replaces Late Edition.
The Last Word would feature interviews on a wide range of subjects, said TVNZ head of news Heaton Dyer. The show would be "opinionated, entertaining and intelligent".
The late show will screen from Mondays to Thursdays and include a 15-minute news bulletin read by Neil Waka. The news bulletin will also screen on Friday night.
TVNZ's news and current affairs line-up of main presenters is largely unchanged, with Michael Wilson presenting TelstraClear Business, Mike Hosking and Kate Hawkesby on Breakfast with Peter Williams reading the news, Richard Long and Judy Bailey reading the weeknight news, Simon Dallow and Alison Mau presenting the 6pm bulletin on weekends, and Mike Hosking the face of Sunday.
One News reporters are now hosting a 15-minute lunchtime bulletin and Holmes returns next Tuesday for its 14th year.
Assignment returns in March and will be joined in the current affairs line-up by Foreign Assignment, fronted by Cameron Bennett.
Face to Face with Kim Hill also begins in March.
