A Waikato fire service officer died while responding to a call-out last night.
Fire Service Waikato/Bay of Plenty regional commander Bill Butzbach confirmed the man died while driving a Fire Service van to attend an accident in Tirau, 55km southeast of Hamilton.
A bystander came to the man's aid but was unable to resuscitate him.
Mr Butzbach said it appeared the death was from natural causes but said no details were being released. He spoke to the family today.
Putaruru police Constable Peter Hills said the incident happened about 8pm. He said the matter was before the coroner.
