Charges have been laid after two serious assaults in different parts of Auckland over the Easter weekend.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested following a serious assault in Kelston yesterday morning.

One patient was transported to hospital by ambulance after an assault on St Leonards Rd.

Police were called shortly after 5am as neighbours reported hearing a fight.

The 20-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and is due to appear in Waitakere District Court today.

The victim remains in a serious condition.

An earlier incident, at 4.20am on Saturday in central Auckland's Queen St, left a man in a critical condition.

The alleged offender in that case, Joseph Antonio Halaholo Larson, appeared in the Auckland District Court today charged with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm to Jerico Telea.

A 20-year-old bartender, of Favona in South Auckland, Larson, was remanded in custody by Justice of the Peace Les Smith.

Larson's lawyer, Emma Priest, who noted that he had full family support in court, said a bail application would be made tomorrow.
