Flight disruptions at Auckland Airport after damage closes runway

Flights were briefly delayed today at Auckland Airport after the runway was damaged.

Flights have been disrupted at Auckland Airport this afternoon after damage to its sole runway caused a brief closure.

The runway opened again shortly before 6pm this evening after being closed for about 15 minutes.

An Auckland Airport spokesperson said there were several minor flight disruptions because of the closure.

Air New Zealand also confirmed some of its flights were disrupted during the runway closure.

Details of how the runway had been damaged were not specified.
