A Rotorua dairy worker is thanking his lucky stars after narrowly avoiding being hit by a car that smashed through the front of the shop this afternoon.
Ngapuna Dairy shop assistant Brijesh Babu had just moved away from the shop counter when he heard a car accelerating.
Moments later, the silver station wagon crash through the front wall of the shop, leaving debris and broken glass littering the floor and counter area.
"I don't know what happened," Babu said.
"Thank God I just jumped out of the way, it was very scary.
"It was a hell of a noise coming in."
He said the shop was usually very busy, and it was lucky nobody had been standing at the counter when the crash occurred.
"Thank God nothing happened."
Police said nobody was injured in the crash, which happened about 1pm, and they are investigating the cause.
