Police are responding to a robbery involving a firearm at a superette on Main St in Edgecumbe.

The robbery involved two men, one carrying a firearm, who fled the scene at the Main St Superette with nothing, police said.

The owner was hurt but not seriously injured.

Police attended at 7pm and criminal investigation branch officers were still on the scene at 9.40pm.


The News Whakatane Facebook page said "Edgecumbe's Main St dairy has allegedly been robbed at gunpoint. According to locals about five shots were fired".
