Makeshift warning signs appear on danger corner in Whanganui

While authorities investigate ways to stop cars crashing on a bend in Whanganui, it appears someone has taken the matter into their own hands.

Makeshift "please slow down" signs appeared on the Totara St/Fitzherbert Ave corner over the weekend.

The warning has been written on yellow paper with black marker pen and sits under the curve marker at each end of the bend, visible to traffic coming from both directions.

The corner has been the site of multiple crashes from both directions with one Fitzherbert Ave property being hit four times in a year.

The latest car to crash took out three fences and a caravan, and hit a garage.

The Whanganui District Council has been investigating putting warning signs of its own on the approach to the bend before a permanent solution can be put in place.
