Anyone who saw the car involved in a fatal crash following a police pursuit in Frasertown, Wairoa, on September 10 is being asked to come forward.
A 22-year-old Gisborne man died in the crash.
Prior to the crash police had observed the car speeding and signalled to the driverto pull over.
The driver fled police and crashed a short time later.
One man died, one man was flown to Hawkes Bay Hospital in a critical condition, and two other men were taken to Wairoa for treatment.
Gisborne road policing Sergeant Dean Plowman said police were still investigating the crash and wanted to hear from anyone who saw the silver Toyota people mover on State Highway 2 between Napier and Wairoa in the hours before the 7.30pm crash.
"Anyone who may have seen this vehicle driving in a manner that gave them cause for concern, could be of assistance to this inquiry and their help would be appreciated," he said.
