Police are looking for a man who allegedly fired gunshots near a small child.

Waitakere Police detectives have today made a social media plea for help to find 32-year-old Jason Lee.

"Jason has 3 warrants to arrest after he was involved in an altercation with a person known to him in Te Atatu on Friday afternoon and he allegedly fired shots in the presence of a small child. Thankfully, no one was injured," the Auckland City Police Facebook post reads.

"This was a really serious incident but police want to assure our community that we are treating the matter with urgency."


Police said Lee had warrants including for a breach of protection order, discharging a firearm, and possession of a firearm.

He was described as 184cm and of slim build.

Police said he also has tattoos including the words 'West Side' and a picture of a pistol on his left forearm.

He is also said to have contacts throughout Auckland and is considered dangerous.

Police asked members of the public not to approach him but to call 111.
