The family of Kurt Sturgess, the husband and father killed in a fiery car explosion in Queenstown two days ago, are heartbroken, says family representative Andy Yates.
He has set up a Givealittle page to support Sturgess' wife Lucy and "gorgous infant son Charlie".
"The Sturgess family are heartbroken. If you are wanting to help, please contribute at this time of need. The burden of how to support his family through such a difficult time now lies with Lucy and Kurt's families.
"Funds will be used to aid in the ongoing living costs and additional monies required due to Kurt's passing," Yates said.
Queenstown police said the Christchurch man's body removed from the vehicle yesterday afternoon and sent to Christchurch for an autopsy.
The death has been referred to the coroner and police were not looking for anyone else.
Police said the family is devastated about Sturgess' death and are assisting police with their inquiries.
A car exploded at Jardine Park in the suburb of Kelvin Heights at 9.30pm on Wednesday.
A specialist fire investigator went back to the wreckage yesterday to work out what caused the car to burst into flames.
