Firefighters are attempting to winch out a woman who has become stuck between rocks at a Northland beach.

Emergency services were called at 6.39pm after reports the woman had slipped, fallen and become wedged between two rocks at Motutara Point, Whananaki, a police spokeswoman said.

A Fire Service spokeswoman said firefighters were with the woman and were attempting to winch her out.

A rescue helicopter had been dispatched from Whangarei.

Communication to the area was difficult so further details were not immediately available.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics were on their way to the scene but were yet to arrive.

Police are also monitoring the situation.
