A Gisborne dairy was held up by a man toting a "long sharp weapon" this morning.

Police said he walked into the Huxley Rd Dairy around 6.15am armed with a weapon. He threatened the shop worker and left with some items.

The shop worker chased the robber from the shop. The worker was not injured but very shaken by the incident.

It is unknown at this stage what property the offender took.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a man acting suspiciously around the dairy just after 6am today.
