Two people have been injured in two separate crashes within about 300m of each other on the southwestern motorway.
A person has been rushed to Middlemore Hospital in a critical condition, a St John ambulance spokeswoman said.
Another, from the other crash, has been moderately injured.
Northern fire service spokeswoman Megan Ruru said crews were called to the scene of a three car crash, at the northbound section of the motorway between Puhinui and Massey Rds, about 11.15pm.
About 300m away another car had rolled and a person was thrown from the vehicle, Ruru said.
The person who was more badly injured was hurt in the second crash, which was further north, the St John ambulance spokeswoman said.
