A fly-past of Soviet aircraft has been grounded this morning because of wet weather in the Wairarapa.
Wings over Wairarapa have had to cancel the Yak52 fly-over to Wellington that was due to take place at lunchtime today.
Organisers of the popular three-day air show at Masterton's Hood Aerodrome said little flying would happen this afternoon because of the rain.
A decision about tomorrow's airshow would be made by 8am but at this stage everything was expected to go ahead.
Despite many of today's aerial displays being grounded, the gates to the show open at noon. General admission was free today.
People were recommended to wear footwear suitable for wet conditions and to bring a jacket.
The show will include aerobatics by vintage aircraft, an attempt to smash the world record for glider rolls and a massive night display set to music.
