Gridlock greets travellers heading to Auckland Airport

A breakdown has caused major problems for those rushing to catch a plane at Auckland Airport this morning.

Long queues have backed up kilometres on the highway leading to the airport after a breakdown blocked a southbound lane on George Bolt Memorial Dr.

The problem vehicle has since been cleared but the gridlock now stretches back to Dominion Rd in Mt Roskill.

New Zealand Transport Authority earlier tweeted motorists using this stretch of motorway should expect significant delays.
