At least four police cars and a dog handler were involved in a hunt for a man who tried to evade arrest near Hamilton today.

Police had gone to a residential address in Melville this morning to pick him up for an outstanding warrant relating to violence charges.

As officers arrived, he left in a silver Ford Falcon and ignored a signal to stop.

"The car was followed to a rural area south of Hamilton and he attempted to evade officers on foot," a police spokesman said. "He was arrested shortly afterwards."
