A person has survived a serious crash near Tauranga - only to be struck by another vehicle soon after.
Just after midnight this morning, emergency services were called to the Tauranga Eastern Link on State Highway 2, where a vehicle had crashed and flipped upside down.
A Fire Service spokesperson reported a person was found injured and lying on the ground.
It appeared the person had left the vehicle and had then been hit by another vehicle on the side of the road.
They were later taken to Tauranga Hospital by ambulance in a serious condition.
It wasn't immediately clear whether the person had been thrown from the crashed car or had climbed from the wreck themselves.
A police spokesperson said it appeared the person had been "clipped" by another car following the crash.
