Man charged after body found

A man has been charged with murder after the body of a woman was found on the side of a road yesterday.

Counties Manukau Police said the man is a 24-year-old from Manurewa and is due to appear in the Pukekohe District Court today.

Police said the victim was a 22-year-old woman, who was found dead in Hampton Downs, south of Auckland.

It is believed her death was domestic-related and officers are not looking for anyone else in connection to the incident.

Police said work was now being made to complete "formal identification procedures" of the victim, whose name will not be released until later.

"Her family have made a specific request that media do not attempt to contact them and ask that they be allowed to grieve in private during this difficult time,'' police said.
