A man has been rescued from the Kaweka Range, in Hawke's Bay, after suffering chest injuries when he fell from a tree.
The 72-year-old, of Masterton, was putting up a tent fly when the accident happened near the Mangatainoka Hot Springs.
He activated a personal locator beacon and the alarmwas raised with the NZ Rescue Co-ordination Centre, who called on the help of the Hawke's Bay Rescue Helicopter Trust to attend to the man.
He was treated at the scene by a St John advanced paramedic and was later flown to the Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital.
