Five people have been injured, three seriously, after a police car and another vehicle collided south of Auckland last night, ambulance staff say.
The incident occurred on Barber Rd in Bombay about 7.30pm.
A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said three people were seriously injured and two others suffered minor injuries in the crash near the intersection with Paparata Rd.
All were taken to Middlemore Hospital.
Inspector Peter Raynes, of the northern police communications centre, said the crash was between a police car and a member of the public's vehicle.
"We don't know whether the police car was en route to an emergency or not," he said.
The information police had was that three people were injured -- one serious, one moderate and one with minor injuries.
The police serious crash unit is investigating.
