Auckland Zoo is celebrating its 90th birthday with an invitation to others over the age of 90.

For the next two weeks they can visit the zoo free of charge.

Zoo director Jonathan Wilcken hopes people in the zoo's age bracket will be keen to come back.

"I know that a lot of people have grown up with the zoo, but when you do that many people stop coming to the zoo after a little while.

"I think that it would be great if we could get people who haven't been to the zoo for ages to come back and see the changes."

The zoo is also offering Devonshire tea to seniors on weekdays for the next two weeks.
