An odd dance made famous on YouTube, a controversial talent show judge and topless photos of Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, made the top 10 searches on Google last month.
A music video, Gangnam Style, made famous by South Korean rapper Psy was the fastest-rising search during September.
The video, showing a unique dance by the singer, has been viewed on YouTube 359 million times.
Also to make the top 10 was an argument between Demi Lovato, a controversial new American X Factor judge, and a contestant. Lovato later revealed she had overcome mental illness to appear on the popular reality show.
But topping the list was a search for a topless Kate Middleton, taken while she was holidaying with Prince William.
The pictures were not published here, but that did not stop New Zealanders from wanting a peek at the salacious shots, taken by a photographer while the royal pair were holidaying in France in early September.
Since then, bottomless photos of the future queen have also emerged.
Another rumour of Morgan Freeman's death swept the globe in September, with New Zealanders searching the internet to find out if it was true this time; it wasn't.
Local rugby competition the ITM Cup has also grasped the nation's interest, rising in the search ranks with spikes every weekend in September.
