A woman needing surgery to remove a bullet from her skull remains in a critical condition this morning.

She was rushed to Middlemore Hospital after being shot at a home on Druces Rd, Manukau about 1.30am yesterday.

This morning a spokeswoman for the hospital said the injured woman was in a critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit.

A CT scan at the hospital had revealed a bullet lodged in her head.

Police or the hospital could not comment this morning on whether the woman had undergone the surgery to remove it.

A 60-year-old man appeared in Manukau District Court yesterday charged with assault.

He was remanded in custody and his matter will be mentioned again tomorrow.

A police spokesman said more serious charges were likely.
