A lock of hair cut from French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte sold for $19,000 at an auction in Auckland last night to a private collector in London.
It was part of a collection held by descendants of Denzil Ibbetson, the commissionary officer on the island of St Helena during Napoleon's incarceration and death.
