A full-sized clay statue of legendary New Zealand-born racehorse Phar Lap in full stride is about to get a detailed anatomical examination by Hamilton equine veterinarian Noel Power.
North Shore sculptor Joanne Sullivan-Gessler was commissioned to produce a full-sized bronze statute of the 17.1-hands-high Phar Lap, to be put this year on a marble plinth outside the Timaru Racecourse, near where the horse was born in 1926.
She said Mr Power would make sure the clay statue was as close anatomically to Phar Lap as possible before the bronze was cast.
