KEY POINTS:
A 41 year-old man has been charged with the murder of cat protection worker Kerry Leigh Downey and is due to make an appearance in Christchurch District Court this afternoon.
The Christchurch man was already in custody for another alleged offence and had been granted name suppression.
Mrs Downey, 52, was out on cat protection voluntary work when she disappeared last week and her body was later found on the city's Port Hills by an early morning walker.
