KEY POINTS:
The US Media has latched on to the case of Qian Xue following the start of the official search for her father Nai Yin Xue in Los Angeles.
Both the mainstream and Chinese news outlets are covering the developments, which include reports that Xue took a shuttle bus to the city's Chinatown after landing at LA airport.
Fox News, the Los Angeles Times, ABC and CNN are among those to have picked up the story of Xue, who abandoned his daughter Qian at a railway station in Melbourne last Saturday and is suspected of the murder of his wife An An in Auckland.
The story has also featured on the front page of Chinese language paper the Chinese Daily News.
Detective Sicard of the Foreign Prosecution Unit with the Los Angeles Police Department said the Asian Task Force is translating the Chinese language story, which is running alongside a large photograph of Mr Xue.
"There's a big Chinese community here. They are putting a lot of information on the website and these leads we are following," Detective Sicard said.
He said the LAPD is working alongside Interpol in Los Angeles.
The New Zealand police said today they were communicating with US authorities via email but would not discuss the details.
Officer Karen Smith from the LAPD said she could not confirm the reports that Mr Xue had boarded a shuttle to Chinatown, first reported by the Los Angeles affiliate of US TV network ABC.
She said the moment Mr Xue tries to use his passport or is stopped by police, he will be taken into custody.
Detectives have spoken to the airport shuttle driver who may have picked up Xue.
