The Kawerau District Council has offered the SPCA a new site for its building because geothermal activity beneath the ground has made its shelter too hot to work in.
The SPCA has been offered a long-term lease on land next to the council's dog pound for a new building or to move the existing one.
The SPCA had said it would have to stop operations from October because the extreme heat in the building made the animals sick and in some cases, killed them. The move is likely to cost at least $27,000.
