The son of a prominent New Zealand leader has been given name suppression after appearing in court on a drink driving charge.
The 18-year-old was charged with driving on October 20 with a breath alcohol reading of 761mcg per litre of breath. The legal limit for under 20s is zero. The adult limit is 400mcg.
The case was transferred to Auckland District Court from a provincial court for an appearance on November 8, when name suppression was granted by a community magistrate.
Newstalk ZB reported that the consequences for the teen's father were given as grounds for suppression.
