"After days like [Wednesday], motivation is never low at Emirates Team New Zealand," the team responded on Facebook. "But these messages sure bring a bit of extra inspiration and a smile to the team! Keep mowing."
Devereux said it was "fantastic" to have the support from neighbours, and called on more Kiwis to mow messages for Team New Zealand into their lawns.
Now another company has taken him up on the challenge, mowing messages in the grass at Bayswater Marina, Pineharbour Marina and Hobsonville Marina.
Bayswater co-owner Paula Herbertsaid "To Grant Dalton and the team we wish you all the very best, bring the cup home and go Emirates Team New Zealand".
Drone footage swoops over the water, capturing waving flag-holding supporters on the wharves and stunning images of Auckland Harbour.
That video has had more than 30,000 viewssince it was posted on June 2.
The social media response has been so positive it's spurring the Viaduct Harbour company to film their own support message in response.
