A man has died following a collision between a horse and a motorcycle.
The collision happened last night in Christchurch near the intersection of Pound Rd and Yaldhurst Rd around 8.40pm.
The motorcyclist was originally reported as being in a serious condition, but St John Ambulance has this morning confirmed he died at the scene.
The horse also died at the scene.
It was understood the motorcyclist was travelling east-bound on Yaldhurst Rd when he collided with one of two unattended horses on the road, Canterbury police said.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
The serious crash unit completed a scene examination overnight and investigations are continuing.
Police have urged anyone who witnessed the crash or saw any horses on the road last night to contact Christchurch Central Police Station on 03 363 7400.
