Missing man found dead in Tāmaki River after week-long Auckland search

A man’s body has been pulled from an Auckland river after a week-long search.

Police said they recovered a man’s body yesterday evening from the Tāmaki River, in east Auckland.

Search efforts have been underway throughout the week after the man was reported missing near Waipuna on March 6.

Police responded to the area just before 6pm after a member of the public located the man in the water.

Auckland City east area commander Inspector Jim Wilson said the man’s death will be referred to the coroner.

“Searching has been underway involving the Police Maritime Unit and the Police National Dive Squad, with assistance from the Navy,” he said.

“I would like to acknowledge all of those experts involved in the search effort.

“Our thoughts are with the man’s family for their loss.”
