Arnold Reedy, the south Auckland accountant who disappeared for nearly six weeks earlier this year, has been charged with wasting police time and carelessly using a car.
He will appear in the Manukau District Court later this month after he entered no plea and was remanded at his first appearance last
week.
Reedy, 41, from Mangere, was thought to have died after his car was found crashed into a mangrove swamp at Kaiaua on the Firth of Thames on February 29.
After blood was found in the car, police said he may have been slightly hurt and disoriented and may have died after wandering into the water near the crash scene.
However, he arrived at Auckland Hospital for treatment for an eye injury six weeks later.
Several members of his family believed he was dead but after he reappeared the family said he had had a nervous breakdown.
