Police will resume searching tomorrow for a kayaker missing in Wellington Harbour.
Police began searching for Cameron Peter Millar, 19, after he became separated from his companion close to Ward Island, off Eastbourne, about 6.10pm yesterday.
Searchers would analyse information collected today before deciding what areas the would comb tomorrow, Acting Sergeant Anthony Harmer said.
Around 15 LandSAR volunteers, police search and rescue staff and members of the local community completed a thorough shoreline search from Eastbourne to Pencarrow today. A marine and aerial search had also been completed throughout the day, Mr Harmer said.
The man's yellow kayak was found last night on the shore about 6km from Ward Island in the Pencarrow area. A rucksack and paddle were also found in the water.
The Waikato Times reported Mr Millar, from Hamilton, and his partner were tipped out of their kayaks while making their way to Ward Island.
Mr Millar's partner, from Lower Hutt, made it to shore to raise the alarm.
Hamilton police Senior Sergeant Craig Taylor said Mr Millar's family were understandably still in shock.
Mr Millar had lived in Wellington for the past year and had just finished his first year studying.
