Meningococcal disease alert in Waikato

A Waikato University student is recovering in hospital after being struck down with potentially fatal meningococcal disease.

Twelve first- and second-year students who may have been in contact with the male student at Bryant Hall hostel were put on antibiotics after he was taken to hospital on Thursday night.

Nine deaths from the disease have occurred nationally so far this year.
