The older defendant also faced charges of possessing bongs, a cannabis plant and a meth pipe and would apply for bail later today.
Both were remanded without plea until next month.
Police said a third male, aged 47, had also been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and he would appear on a later date.
The victim was taken to Auckland Hospital with a serious, but not life-threatening, wound to the right side of his face.
Detective Senior Sergeant Glen Baldwin said police were not seeking anyone else in relation to the shooting.
He also commended officers for their diligence in tracking down and apprehending the three offenders within a short timeframe.
