Massey University Albany fire: Students and staff evacuated from campus

Students and staff have been evacuated from Massey University’s Albany campus in Auckland after fire broke out in a lecture room.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand said 14 fire engines were at the campus, with crews fighting a fire in a lecture room on the top floor of a four-storey building at 10am.

A spokesperson said three of the 14 trucks that attended were aerial appliances from across Auckland.

“The fire has been contained, and firefighters are now involved in salvage and ventilation work,” the spokesperson said.

A fire investigator was also in attendance to establish the cause of the fire.

A Massey University spokesperson told the Herald that emergency services were in attendance at a fire at the Auckland campus.

“This fire is located in Quad B. Staff and students have been evacuated from Quad A and B buildings,” the spokesperson said.

There have been no injuries reported.

“Safety is our first priority, and we will be in contact when more information becomes available,” the spokesperson said.
