Marine area changes

Eighteen regions will take part over the next five years in planning which marine areas should be protected, says Conservation Minister Chris Carter.

He said the present system for developing marine reserves was piecemeal and a new approach was needed.

The Government hopes to have 10 per cent of New Zealand's marine area under some form of protection by 2010.
