Marie Jamieson's killer to be sentenced

The killer of Auckland hairdresser Marie Jamieson nine years ago will be sentenced in the High Court in Auckland this afternoon.

Joseph Martin Reekers was convicted last December of murdering Ms Jamieson whose naked body was found behind a west Auckland factory in February 2001.

Her naked body was found behind a west Auckland factory and for years police could not track down her killer.

Seven years after her killing DNA samples found on her body matched DNA taken from Reekers after he was convicted of stealing salami from a west Auckland supermarket.

When he pleaded guilty to the murder last December, Reeker's lawyer Chris Comeskey said he had been tormented since the killing and did not want to put the family through the ordeal of a trial.
