Man seriously hurt in Tauranga brawl

A man is seriously ill in Tauranga Hospital with head injuries after a brawl in the city last night.

Police said a fight broke out in suburban Greerton between a large group of people, armed with a variety of weapons.

"As a result of this incident, one male aged 47 years, is presently in Tauranga Hospital with serious head injuries," said Detective Senior Sergeant Lindsay Pilbrow from the Tauranga police.

He said police wanted to hear from anyone who saw the brawl or knew anyone involved.

Police were continuing with a scene investigation and would be speaking to the witnesses they had already identified, he said.
