Until today, Stevens' name was suppressed, but that lapsed at 4pm.
He has appeared in court before, as a witness at the trial of former Act MP Donna Awatere Huata. She was jailed in 2005 for two years and nine months for misappropriating more than $80,000 from the Pip Foundation, some of which was spent on a stomach stapling operation.
It was a government funded organisation that helped disadvantaged children.
A NZ Herald report from the trial said Stevens told an Auckland District Court jury Awatere Huata said funds for the stomach operation came from money she saved from her parliamentary salary.
She was an ACT list MP from 1996 to 2003, before she was expelled from the party when the fraud allegations came to light. She served as an independent until 2004, when the Supreme Court ruled she could not remain in Parliament.
At the trial, Stevens said he was asked by Awatere Huata to do a report because the Act Party wanted to know whether there was any substance to claims in a Wellington newspaper that money from the Pip Foundation was being misused.
There were other allegations, including a claim that foundation money was used to fund a trip to a fashion show in Australia.
Stevens produced a report exonerating Awatere Huata, stating that she received no funds directly or indirectly and that all foundation funds were expended in accordance with the trust deed.
Stevens was bankrupted from 2010.
