A young man is in an induced coma in Auckland hospital following a stabbing at a North Shore address last night.
Police are at an address in the suburb of Birkenhead investigating the incident in which a 25-year-old male victim received life threatening injuries to his upper right leg.
Police spokesperson Kevin Loughlin said police were called to the Palmerston Road address following an altercation between two men at about 7pm.
The victim was stabbed in his upper right leg with a "large knife", police said, receiving life-threatening injuries.
The man was taken to Auckland Hospital by ambulance where he required surgery.
Police said the man remains in an induced coma. His condition is stable but it will be some time before police are able to talk to him.
Mr Loughlin said North Shore CIB investigators say they have strong leads in their search for the alleged offender.
