A man has appeared in court over a serious attack on a prostitute in central Christchurch in May.
In the May 29 attack, the woman was allegedly strangled and knocked to the ground by a man at 9pm by the Avon River near Cambridge Terrace.
The man, who made no
attempt to take the woman's bags or belongings, left when she started screaming, police said.
A 21-year-old man was arrested on June 11 in relation to the attack, police said today.
He appeared in Christchurch District Court on Friday on a charge of aggravated wounding and was bailed to reappear on July 3.
