Man hurt in boat explosion in Canterbury

A man has been hurt in a boat explosion in Canterbury.

Emergency services were called to the incident just after 9am at the Rakaia Gorge bridge.

Ambulance southern communications spokesman John Sneesby said a 58-year-old was taken to the Methven Medical Centre with minor burns from the incident.

It was not clear whether the boat had been on the bridge on in the water at the time of the explosion, Mr Sneesby said.
