A 29-year-old man is to appear in Christchurch District Court today to face a murder charge after a woman was stabbed to death at a Christchurch house yesterday.
Police called to a disturbance at a block of flats in the city's Addington suburb about 10pm found the badly injured woman.
Ambulance officers
treated her, but she died at the scene, Detective Senior Sergeant Tom Fitzgerald of Sydenham police said today.
Police found the man, who was known to the woman, at about midnight at another address, and were not seeking anyone else in connection with the case, he said.
Mr Fitzgerald said officers would return to the scene today. The weapon used in the attack had not been found.
The woman's name would not be released until her family had been informed of her death.
