Man critical after car hits roadworks barrier

A man is in a critical condition after his car collided with a roadworks barrier in West Auckland this morning.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Te Atatu Road with Old Te Atatu Road about 4.20am.

Fire Service took more than half an hour to cut the man free from the car.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was the only occupant in the car.

He has been taken to Auckland Hospital in a critical condition.

Only one vehicle was involved in the accident.

The Serious Crash Unit is at the scene.

Police said Te Atatu Rd has been reduced to one lane, and although it is expected to be reopened for rush hour traffic, commuters should expect delays.
