A 20-year-old man accused of murdering Dunedin woman Karin Ann Ross has been remanded in custody following a court appearance.
The man appeared in the Dunedin District Court this morning. He was granted name suppression and would reappear on February 2.
Dunedin CIB staff yesterday arrested and charged the manwith the murder of the 51-year-old cleaning services worker.
Detective Inspector Darryl Sweeney said in a statement last night that the man charged was known to Ms Ross.
A member of the public alerted emergency services about 2am on December 2 after discovering Ms Ross' body in the car park of Spotless cleaning services, the company for which she worked, in Strathallan St.
A large homicide investigation was launched and overseen by Det Insp Sweeney, of Christchurch. In his statement, he commended the investigators and specialist staff who "worked around the clock to resolve this crime".
He also thanked the members of the public who provided information and support during the week-long investigation.
Police would not comment last night on the circumstances surrounding the man's arrest, whether he faced other charges, or the findings of a postmortem on the victim.
