A man carrying a sawn-off shotgun robbed an Auckland bank yesterday demanding cash.
A man entered ASB on Blockhouse Bay Rd about 4.10pm on Tuesday. He pointed the shotgun at bank staff and demanded cash but staff activated the emergency security screens, which prevented the robber getting any money.
He fled empty-handed.
Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Baldwin believed the man may have escaped on a motorcycle.
"This is a horrible crime that has left the bank staff and customers very shaken. Fortunately no one was hurt. Violent crimes such as these are extremely traumatic for anyone involved and this offender needs to be caught."
Baldwin said the man's clothing was distinctive and hoped someone would recognise it.
The offender was wearing a full-faced white motorcycle helmet and a blue hooded sweatshirt with large white lettering on the front and back. He wore dark-coloured long pants, blue sports shoes and was also carrying a red bag.
Police examined the scene and are speaking to witnesses.
