Man almost hit by car while fleeing attackers

An injured man was almost hit by a car as he fled his attackers in Petone last night.

The 19-year-old is today recovering in Hutt Hospital after surgery on a head wound.

Detective Sergeant Tusha Penny, of Lower Hutt police, said the man was attacked by a group of up to six men outside a Jackson St bar at about 10.30pm.

The man fled across the road where a car had to stop in the middle of the road to avoid hitting him.

Members of the public intervened assisting the injured man.

Ms Penny wants to hear from the driver of the car and any people who saw the attack.
